4J who?

4J is a women-owned and family-operated craft brewery in the Houston/Spring Branch area. The family, including previous generations, has lived in Spring Branch for nearly 100 years. The name 4J comes from the four "J" siblings - Jessica, Jackie, Joanna, and Jennifer. Having four girls whose name all start with a J made it tough on poor dad. He would refer to each of the girls by order of birth. The youngest, #4, and Dad started home brewing together years ago, living by the motto "makin' some and drinkin' some." The beer was always a hit at family events so one day, #4 and Mom decided to "steal" Dad's hobby and shape it into a business. Dad, the official taste tester and brewmaster, quickly warmed up to the idea because he always has enough beer to drink. Mom and #4 sure do have their work cut out for them making sure he leaves some for others!

Mom and Dad also own 4J Ranch in Blue, Texas. Even though we have responsibilities at the ranch, we brew year-round for the big bucks - and by bucks we mean deer. When we are done brewing our beer, 90% of our spent grain is transported to our ranch to feed cattle, hogs, deer, and other wildlife. 10% of our spent grain is composted for Mom's garden in Houston and the other 5% is used for recipes when Mom and #4 cook...see the blog for recipes!
